Why Lash Cleansing is Non-Negotiable: Preventing Blepharitis and Lash Shedding

Many clients fear that washing their lash extensions will cause them to fall out faster. In fact, the complete opposite is true: neglecting eyelid hygiene is the leading cause of premature lash loss, adhesive breakdown, and uncomfortable eye conditions.

The Science of Your Lash Follicles

Your eyelid margin contains dozens of tiny oil glands called Meibomian glands. Every day, these glands produce natural sebum to keep your eyes lubricated. In addition, dead skin cells, airborne pollen, and cosmetic particles constantly collect at the base of your lash line.

When this debris is not cleansed away:

  • The natural oils dissolve the cyanoacrylate glue bond, causing extensions to slide off.
  • Follicles become clogged, leading to inflammation, itching, and conditions like Blepharitis.
  • Microscopic lash mites (Demodex) proliferate in clogged sebum, causing redness and follicle weakening.

How to Do a 2-Minute Lash Bath at Home

  1. Dispense: Pump 1-2 pumps of oil-free foaming lash shampoo onto a soft, fluffy cleansing brush.
  2. Gently Cleanse: Close your eye and gently work the foam downward from base to tip in sweeping circular motions.
  3. Rinse Thoroughly: Splash with lukewarm water until all traces of foam are gone.
  4. Pat Dry & Brush: Pat gently with a lint-free towel, let air dry, then brush gently with a clean spoolie.
